All the lab testing you need at Penn Medicine
We offer lab services at many convenient locations around southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Our board-certified pathologists, technologists, and support staff can quickly provide testing for common and rare conditions.
Penn Medicine labs are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) in recognition of our quality and safety. We’re also accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), which means we meet high standards in stem cell therapy.
Specialized lab services
Whether you need routine inpatient or outpatient testing like blood tests, urinalysis, and electrocardiograms (EKG), or more advanced diagnostics, we can help. We return same-day results for some routine tests, allowing you and your doctor to get answers as soon as possible.
Laboratory medicine
Our laboratory medicine specialists provide a full menu of routine and complex blood tests, including services that aren’t widely available. At Penn Medicine, you’ll receive advanced diagnostic testing through our:
- Toxicology and endocrinology laboratories for evaluation of disease markers found in body tissues and fluids
- Clinical microbiology, immunology, and molecular diagnostics laboratories for infectious disease testing
- Coagulation laboratory for diagnosis of bleeding disorders
- Histocompatibility and immunogenetics laboratory for support of our transplant programs
Anatomic pathology
Anatomic pathologists evaluate tissues, cells, and antibodies to diagnose diseases such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, and neurological conditions.
Precision and computational diagnostics
Personalized medicine targets therapies to specific individual and disease characteristics, resulting in improved outcomes. Labs and programs supporting Penn Medicine’s personalized medicine efforts include:
- Immune health program: uses knowledge of the immune system to diagnose, treat, and prevent disease
- Center for personalized diagnostics: offers advanced genomics testing for people with cancer
- Molecular pathology laboratory: provides targeted testing of infectious diseases, inherited disorders, and cancers
- Cytogenetics laboratory: performs testing to diagnose and classify leukemias and other hematologic disorders
Transfusion medicine and therapeutic pathology
Through our blood bank and transfusion services, we provide a high volume of blood and blood products to people each year. We also perform thousands of procedures each year on people diagnosed with a range of genetic conditions, cancers, and blood and immune system disorders. Our hematopoietic progenitor collection laboratory supports people receiving stem cells and CART treatment for cancer.
This high-volume, specialized experience helps our team provide you with the highest level of patient care. All our facilities and programs are also accredited by the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
