Day of Procedure
On the day of your surgery, you will meet an anesthesiologist before your operation to discuss anesthesia. You will get an IV with antibiotics to lower the risk of infection before the procedure which usually takes 35 to 40 minutes.
The greatest advancement in joint replacement has been in the area of anesthesia. There is evidence that less pain medication is necessary if you have a preemptive analgesia administered before surgery, allowing for participation in therapy sooner.
Post-Op Hospital Surgical Management
After your operation, you will heal in a post-anesthesia care unit to manage your pain. Afterwards, you will go to a floor where rehab begins. It all starts with an early functional recovery to get you moving as quickly as possible.
