A World Leader in Pituitary Care
Although pituitary tumors are benign, they are diverse and can lead to various problems. Some tumors take up space and press on the optic nerves near the pituitary gland. Others secrete hormones that affect how the whole body functions.
That's why no two patients have the exact same journey. Each person with a pituitary condition needs the right tests, a custom treatment plan, and regular check-ups. In other words: your care at Penn's Pituitary Center will be centered on and specific to you.
The Latest Diagnostic Technology
To diagnose pituitary tumors, we use specialized technology not available at every hospital. Penn's Pituitary Center offers a high-resolution MRI that spots tiny tumors other scans may miss. We also offer the microadenoma sequence MRI that can spot tumors 2 mm or smaller. That's about the size of a flea.
Skilled and Experienced Surgeons
Pituitary procedures are different than other types of brain surgery, and the best results come from surgeons who treat a high volume of pituitary disorders. The surgeons at Penn's Pituitary Center are among the busiest pituitary surgeons in the country — and are highly focused on pituitary disorders. That's why our outcomes are among the best in the nation. In fact, patients typically go home the next day and feel well enough to resume normal activity within days.
Your Own Team of Pituitary Experts
At Penn, you'll meet a group of highly-skilled pituitary specialists who understand the intricacies of pituitary problems. Initial visits are streamlined, allowing you to see three specialists in your very first visit — saving you time and energy.
Because most of our doctors work with only pituitary disorders, they know when to watch and wait, when to intervene, and which treatments will give you the best long-term results.
We are the only pituitary center in the region with dedicated pituitary endocrinologists. In addition, your treatment team will include other specialists who will meet regularly to discuss your case:
- Radiation oncologists
Throughout your time working with the Penn Pituitary Center, our doctors will work closely with your local endocrinologist to make sure you're receiving the best care close to home.
