Restoring vision and empowering patients

The Penn Medicine neuro-ophthalmology program is one of the largest of its kind in the nation. Our specialists bridge the fields of neurology and ophthalmology to diagnose and treat individuals with neurological and systemic diseases that affect vision and eye movements. In collaboration with both the Scheie Eye and Penn Neurological Institutes, the Penn neuro-ophthalmology program serves patients in the greater Philadelphia and South Jersey region.

Conditions we treat

Swift evaluation and advanced imaging for complex neurological eye conditions

Our neuro-ophthalmology team recognizes the importance of timely care for eye-related health concerns. We promptly schedule appointments for both urgent and non-urgent issues for new and existing patients, ensuring you get answers from our experts in a timely manner. Our providers are also experienced in providing second opinions for patients with continued vision problems after previous eye and neurological exams at other institutions.

Our innovative neuro-imaging techniques provide accurate diagnoses. Diagnostic services include:

  • Fundus photography: A highly specialized high-resolution camera used to get clear images of the retina and optic nerve.
  • Humphrey visual testing: A visual field test to screen patients for various optic nerve conditions.
  • Optical coherence tomography: A non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take images of the inside of the retina.

Modern treatments for neurological eye disorders

We offer the latest surgical treatments for neuro-ophthalmic conditions. Our care team will talk with you about the treatment approach that’s best for you.
