Advanced surgical care for vascular disease

Your vascular system, a network of arteries and veins, provides vital oxygen and nutrients and removes waste throughout your body. When this system is compromised by vascular disease, blockages or weakened vessels restrict blood flow, leading to serious health risks. These conditions require expert care to prevent complications like heart attacks, strokes, or organ damage.

Penn Medicine Heart and Vascular is one of the nation’s largest and most respected vascular care providers. We participate in the Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI), an effort sponsored by the Society for Vascular Surgery. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center hold a three-star rating—the highest number an institution can receive. Our high VQI rating reflects our commitment to the delivery of excellent, high-quality vascular care.

Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of vascular conditions

The first step in your vascular care is a skilled diagnosis, often with the help of imaging from our accredited laboratories. Our highly qualified technologists are certified Registered Vascular Technologists (RVT) with credentials from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Our staff performs over 10,000 tests per year using the latest technology. To support excellent results, we recommend that you have vascular testing done at one lab, such as the Penn Vascular Laboratory. Going to the same lab helps our team detect changes or differences over time by comparing results to previous studies.

After diagnosis, your personalized care plan may include medical therapies, physical therapy and rehabilitation, minimally invasive procedures, or vascular surgery. Penn offers all the latest medical, surgical, and endovascular vascular disease treatment options, including some that are not available at other hospitals, such as our complex approach to vascular limb preservation known as Penn Advanced Limb Preservation (PALP).
