Effective October 30, 2021 at 7 am, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) Emergency Department will be moving to the Pavilion. At that time, all transfers should be redirected to our new state-of-the-art emergency department, located at 1 Convention Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19104.

The new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department features:

  • 61 patient exam rooms
  • 9 rapid assessment rooms
  • 4 resuscitation bays
  • 36 acute care rooms
  • 12 forward flow rooms

And also:

  • Vertical care model All ED patients see a physician right away and are triaged appropriately. In this model, beds and rooms are available to the sickest patients who need them the most, and every patient is seen and has their needs addressed quickly and efficiently.
  • Providers come to the patient Helping to increase the speed with which a patient receives treatment, all healthcare providers will come to the patient in the triage room— rather than have the patient move from station to station for different steps during their initial evaluation, such as from the initial intake consultation to getting their blood drawn, etc.
  • Caregility monitoring In resuscitation rooms for OB emergencies
  • Expanded imaging and testing CT and X-Ray capabilities on both ground and mezzanine floors, and Point of Care testing
  • Redesigned rooms The spaces in which patients will await results in the Pavilion was designed with privacy and comfort in mind, with cubicle-style dividers and comfy reclining chairs. Each space has natural light and room for one visitor.

Open House for First Responders

We welcome all first responders to get a preview of the space prior to opening. We're excited to provide tours of our new two-story emergency department for all first responders on the following dates at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania - Pavilion (1 Convention Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19104).

  • Tuesday, October 12th, 2021 7 pm – 9 pm
  • Wednesday, October 13th, 2021 10 am – 12 pm

Free garage parking will be available at 3600 Civic Center Blvd.
