Possible side effects include headache, body aches, and short-term memory loss. Prolonged or long-term memory loss from ECT is rare.
You may not be eligible for ECT if you:
- Have had a recent stroke or heart attack
- Have heart or lung disease
- Can’t have general anesthesia
Most insurance plans cover ECT.
You can’t drive after ECT treatment, and we recommend that you don’t drive between treatments.
You may continue to take your medication during ECT. Your psychiatrist will assess your progress and manage your medications as needed
