TMJ Total Joint Replacement Remote Second Opinion: Eligibility

A remote online second opinion is available to select patients.* Because of domestic and international health care regulations, eligibility for an online remote second opinion is based on your geographic location. We will work with you to determine your eligibility based on your location, insurance coverage, FSA acceptance, and any out-of-pocket costs.

You may be eligible for a remote second opinion if any of the following criteria are true:

  • A surgeon recommended a TMJ total joint replacement.
  • Your jaw is fused or you have ankylosis (extra bone) that prevents your mouth from opening.
  • You have a jaw replacement device that is failing or needs revision because you have an infection, the device is broken, or there is extra bone.
  • You had an open TMJ surgery that did not work.
  • Your bite (occlusion) shifted because of TMJ disease, TMJ resorption, or disintegration of your jawbone.

* Eligibility for this second opinion program is available for patients in the following states: Florida, Georgia, Maryland, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. Please note: We cannot offer this remote second opinion to Pennsylvania patients who live in the Philadelphia region.
