General guidelines for all visitors and support people
Visiting guidelines and tips
The number of visitors depends on the needs and comfort of the patient, with limitations at the discretion of nursing staff or the clinical team.
One person, whether that be a support person or family member may remain at the hospital after visiting hours. This person should:
- Carry appropriate identification and day pass
- Obtain a new pass daily
- Stay in the patient’s room as much as possible
- Use in-room or nearest public bathroom
- Be responsible for personal needs
Visitors younger than 15 must not be left unattended or alone in the room with a patient.
Check in at the East Entrance, receive a day-specific Visitor Pass, and carry it throughout the visit.
Regardless of location, patients with special needs, neurocognitive disability, or behavioral concerns may have one healthy caregiver, parent, or guardian with them at all times.
Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated, and it may lead to visitation restriction.
Visitors will not be allowed, and should not enter the hospital, if they:
- Feel sick
- Have COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms
- Have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 10 days
- Have been in contact with someone who has a pending COVID-19 test or who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 7 days
- Have been asked to be on home quarantine or isolation
Please do not visit if you have a cold or other communicable disease.
Please do not bring alcoholic beverages onto hospital property.
Please avoid touching equipment in the patient’s room.
Please leave the patient’s room if requested by a doctor, nurse or other patient.
Because of New Jersey dietary rules, please do not bring food to a patient without prior approval from the patient’s physician.
Masking guidelines
Updated April 1, 2026
The number of people with flu and other respiratory illnesses in our region has steadily declined.
Patients, visitors, and staff are not required to wear masks in Penn Medicine hospitals and practices. However, if you have a cough, runny nose, or other respiratory symptoms, you must wear a surgical mask while inside our facilities.
Anyone who wants to wear a mask is welcome to do so. We also encourage people with weakened immune systems to continue to wear masks.
Masking guidance may change based on the spread of respiratory viruses in our region.
