Types of lupus
There are four types of lupus based on what parts of your body are affected and the cause of the disease. Your doctor can identify which type of lupus you have to create the best treatment plan.
The most common type, SLE can cause symptoms throughout your body. Skin and joint symptoms are common, but SLE may also impact your muscles, kidneys, lungs, digestive tract, heart, blood vessels, or central nervous system.
Cutaneous lupus only affects your skin, causing a lupus rash on your face, scalp, or neck.
Some medications can cause symptoms of lupus, which clear up after you stop taking the drugs.
If you’re pregnant and you have SLE or another autoimmune disorder, there’s a chance your baby may be born with neonatal lupus. However, many babies who have a birth parent with lupus are born healthy.
