Description of Clinical Expertise

Dr. Massaro-Giordano is a board certified ophthalmologist and a member of the Comprehensive Ophthalmology Service at Scheie Eye Institute, University of Pennsylvania. She received her medical degree at Temple University after which she completed a one-year internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Massaro attended Scheie Eye Institute for her residency training and was appointed chief resident in her final year. She went on to complete a mini-fellowship in refractive surgery.

Dr. Massaro-Giordano is an experienced cataract micro-surgeon and is actively involved in teaching surgery to the residents at Penn. She sees a myriad of patients and has a specific interest in treating patients with dry eye including the use of autologous serum eye drops.

Dr. Massaro-Giordano participates in research to elucidate the role of a specific protein PAI-2 (Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor Type 2) involved in corneal homeostasis and has had a recent press release about her research involving ocular surface proteins and tumor suppressor genes.
