Description of Research Expertise
At University of Pennsylvania I work as a primary care provider, an educator for students and residents, and serve as the Associate Medical Director for Quality in the Primary Care Service Line and Director of Population Health in the Division of General Internal Medicine.
I have specific interest in electronic health record optimization supporting health care delivery for chronic disease populations and population health. My work focuses on leveraging local quality improvement initiatives, partnership with researchers and insurers, and coordination with multidisciplinary groups and multispecialty providers in developing, studying, and implementing sustainable efforts broadly across health systems.
Current work includes leading the Hypertension Disease team including developing remote monitoring platforms and developing outpatient pathways for hypertension management in partnerships with the Center for Evidence Based Practice; Developing third party partnerships to improve primary care based diabetes management; assessment and iteration of lung nodule incidental findings platforms; and development and assessments of quality improvement and population health efforts for preventive care such as colorectal cancer and breast cancer screening with focus on reducing disparities in care and improving health equity.
Locally, I serve on the Measey Primary Care Advisory Board. Nationally, I serve on the 2024 Impact Assessment of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Quality and Efficiency Measures Project on the A Technical Expert Panel (TEP) and a Federal Assessment Steering Committee (FASC).
Previous research work at MGH examined HIV quality metrics, non-communicable disease screening, and Hypertension and Diabetes control in different primary care models for patients with HIV. I also examined trends of obesity, hypertension, and diabetes in refugees after relocation to the US.
