Prepare for Your First Appointment

Preparing for your first appointment will help things run smoothly. Your first consultation may involve various tests that can take some time. Dress comfortably and bring a book to help pass the time. Here are some additional tips:

  • Be sure to bring your insurance card and any of your medical records if you have not already arranged for them to be delivered.
  • Bring a list of your medications and allergies.
  • Ask a loved one to go with you to stay for the duration of your consultation and testing. This person can provide emotional support and help by taking notes.
  • Allow enough time for your first visit. Arrive 30 minutes prior to fill out any paperwork that may be required. Because our cancer specialists are very thorough, several hours may be needed to allow for lab work or additional diagnostic tests.
  • Bring a notebook to take notes with. This is a great place to write down your questions as well. Additional tools to help you stay organized can be found on OncoPilot.

Helpful Tip: Before you leave your consultation, write down contact information for those involved in your care, including who to call if you need help during non-business hours or if you have follow-up questions.

Becoming a Patient: What to Expect

After your first appointment, your cancer care team will then devise a treatment plan that takes into account every aspect of your needs.

Based on your cancer and medical history, they may recommend you receive chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy or vaccine therapy.

The following video guides explain where to go and what to expect at your first infusion appointment. Below, please choose the location that matches where you have your appointment scheduled.
