"Don't ask me to give up one day, not
one!"
– from the journal of Joan Karnell
Joan Karnell was an extraordinary person. She
was a devoted wife, mother and friend. As a woman
with ovarian cancer, she demonstrated tremendous
strength, determination and courage during her eight year struggle to overcome
the disease.
As a person with a deep sense of social responsibility,
she used her own situation to increase awareness
of and funding for Pennsylvania Hospital's
efforts to establish a cohesive cancer facility that would help ease the pain
and suffering of other cancer patients and their
families.
Joan's dedication and will to help others,
even during her difficult times, was evident
as she volunteered for a cancer support network
with exuberance and spirit. She gave kindness
and hope to all she met.
Although Joan died in
1990, she will always be remembered by everyone
who knew her. She fought hard and made a difference
in this world, and for that, she will always
be alive in our hearts!
