I chose to become a registered nurse because
I wanted to make a difference. Finding
the right place for me to practice took some
searching. I chose Penn
Presbyterian Medical Center because it allows me to practice in a
setting where I am challenged every day and I
can make a difference in the lives of the patients
for whom I provide care.
The extraordinary privilege of serving as PPMC's
chief nursing officer allows me to work with
passionate, innovative nurses who are deeply
committed to the wellbeing of their patients.
Every day I watch my colleagues strive to improve
their practice, initiating change through our
Shared Governance structure and living the vision
of our culture of excellence for our patients,
families and community.
Founded in 1871, Penn Presbyterian started training
nurses in 1887. Our proud heritage includes opening
one of the first critical care units in the region,
and we've always attracted the best and
brightest nurses.
- Are you the kind of nurse who actively advocates
for your patients – and are you willing
to challenge the status quo to improve the
care we provide?
- Are you interested in a career marked by
expanding opportunity and responsibility – perhaps
using your skills in educating and communicating
with families, or in the growing field of healthcare
ethics?
- Do you want to continually expand your skills
and knowledge? In 2009 alone, 124 PPMC
nurses earned specialty certification, while
24 completed additional degrees – with
the support of Penn Medicine's tuition
benefit program, flexible scheduling, and on-site
courses.
- Do you want to work with colleagues who will
bend over backwards to help you succeed?
If your answer is "yes," then Penn
Presbyterian Medical Center may be the place
for you.
At PPMC, we offer tertiary care programs and
services in a community hospital setting. Here,
the high-tech world of advanced medical/surgical
procedures, such as robotic-assisted surgery
and a hybrid OR, meets the friendly surroundings
of a medium-sized hospital.
Over the years I've known a number of
nurses who left PPMC, only to return. One
of them said to me recently: "It is the
best of both worlds – high acuity and high
technology in place where everybody knows your
name."
Nurses make the difference at Penn Presbyterian.
I hope you choose to practice here. You, too,
can make a difference, and become part of our
family.
Sincerely,
Michael Becker, RN, MSN, CCRN
