The Nursing Department at Chester County Hospital provides a patient-focused culture to successfully combine the art of caring with the science of health care. Our Relationship-based Care model provides the framework for the values and principles practiced at the hospital. At Chester County Hospital, patients are treated as if they are our family, and it is with this in mind that our compassionate nurses deliver the highest quality care.

Nursing at Chester County Hospital has embraced the key messages of the 2010 Institute of Medicine Report. This is evidenced by countless examples of nurses leading collaborative efforts and participating in professional organizations, and the increased percentage of nurses attaining or pursuing advanced degrees. Nurses are engaged and empowered through shared decision-making in attaining high quality standards, improving patient outcomes and developing exceptional professional practice.

I welcome you to join our exceptional team and be part of our vision to provide clinical excellence and exceptional care to those we serve – our patients, our visitors and our community.

Sincerely,

Angela R. Coladonato, DNP, RN, NEA-BC
Senior Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer

Nursing Culture

CCH is known for excellent nursing. RNs provide care based on best practices and evidence-based techniques. Our RNs enjoy an environment where continuing education and professional development are encouraged. Nurses have a voice in our Shared Governance Councils and they have opportunities to enhance and to practice leadership skills. They hold an influence over their work environment and implement departmental and systemic changes to bring about positive outcomes.

Professional Practice Model

A professional practice model reflects the hospital's practice environment that is aligned with its nursing vision. Kristen Swanson's Theory of Caring, where patients and families are at the center of care, is the professional model that best aligns with our belief in relationship-based care and the core of our hospital's values. At all levels of management, the hospital places strong emphasis on innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence. Our professional practice model empowers nurses by fostering trust, mutual respect, self-confidence, autonomy, initiative and innovation, as nurses assume accountability for their professional practice and shape their work environment.

Opportunities for Professional Growth and Development

Frontline nurses are encouraged to participate in a clinical ladder. The clinical ladder, PRISM, (Professional Recognition of Initiative, Skill and Merit) is a means for rewarding exceptional performance among registered nurses who have met established qualifications. The program contributes to CCH's record for excellent nurse retention.

  • Nurses can participate in a variety of on-site continuing education programs.
  • Nurses are encouraged to earn certification and return to school for advanced degrees.
  • Nurses have opportunities to use leadership skills in councils and committees.

At Chester County Hospital, our nurses can pursue careers in the following specialty areas:
