BlueJeans for Your Desktop or Laptop Computer

BlueJeans is a HIPAA-compliant platform used by Penn Medicine providers to conduct video visits with patients. It has security features, including a room lock so that communications within the platform are private and your information stays safe.

BlueJeans can be used on your webcam- equipped desktop computer or laptop that is less than 5 years old, in good working condition, and with Windows 7 (SP1) or 10 or macOS 10.11 or later installed.

The Day Before Your Call

  1. Ensure your computer is less than 5 years old and in good working condition with Windows 7 (SP1) or 10 or macOS 10.11 or later installed.
  2. You should have one of the following Internet browsers.
    • Google Chrome (version 42 or later)
    • Firefox (version 47 or later)
    • Safari (version 11 or later)
    • Opera (version 35 or later)
    • Edge (version 79 or later)
  3. Make sure you have a webcam and a microphone built in or attached to your computer.
  4. Confirm you are connected to high-speed Wi-Fi/broadband internet.
  5. Go to the test meeting at bluejeans.com/111. The BlueJeans welcome page below will appear. Select “JOIN WITH BROWSER”.

    (This link is for testing only. The care team will provide you with a different unique link for your actual visit)

  6. Select “Computer Audio” if your computer has a working microphone. If not, select “Phone Call.”

  7. Choose “allow” to let BlueJeans access to your microphone.

  8. Select the red video icon above “Video is OFF” to turn on video for your call.

  9. Choose “Allow” to let BlueJeans access your camera.

  10. You should see yourself on the screen. If so, click “Join Meeting”.

    If you do not see yourself on your computer screen, adjust your computer’s camera settings and try again. If you require assistance, contact the practice directly for immediate assistance.

  11. Once you join the test meeting, you will appear in a small video window in the bottom right corner of the screen and a parrot will appear in the main window. Test your audio by speaking and hearing the parrot repeat what you have said.

  12. You are now ready to use Bluejeans for your upcoming online visit with your provider.

Using BlueJeans for Your Visit

  1. A few moments before your visit, your provider will send you a link to the BlueJeans meeting room. If you have not received the link by the scheduled time of your call, please call your provider’s office. At the time of your appointment, click/tap the link or type it into your computer Internet browser. The BlueJeans welcome page below will appear. Select “JOIN WITH BROWSER”.

  2. Click Computer Audio” if you have a computer microphone. If you do not have a microphone, click/tap “Phone Call.”

  3. Choose “allow” to let BlueJeans access your microphone.

  4. Select the red video icon above “Video is OFF” to use video with your call.

  5. Choose “Allow” to let BlueJeans access your camera.

  6. Click the “Join Meeting” button on the next screen.

  7. Enter a name that you would like as your display name that is shown to others when you are on the video call.

  8. You will be placed in the meeting and your provider will join when ready.

  9. When you enter the meeting, at the top of the screen make sure the camera and microphone buttons are clear (as below) and NOT red. If either one is red, then click the camera and microphone icons to turn on your video and un-mute your audio.

  10. If you receive the “Meeting is locked” message, then your provider is with another patient. Please wait and you will be allowed to join the meeting when the provider is ready.
