Research

Description of Research Expertise:

My research interests lie at the intersection of microbiology, immunology, and metabolism with a focus on the gut microbiome and liver diseases. Currently, I have projects that span the spectrum of basic, translational, and clinical research. These include: 1) Investigating the role of bacterial urease in host and microbial nitrogen flux and metabolism, 2) Determining the metabolome and proteome of cirrhotic ascites for the prevention and treatment of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, and 3) Characterizing the gut microbiota as a precipitant of acute-on-chronic liver failure.
