Steven E. Raper, MD, JD is the Vice Chairman for Quality and Risk Management and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He chairs the Department of Surgery’s Quality Committee.
Dr. Raper received his medical degree from the University of Illinois, and completed his residency in general surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2012. His research focuses on health law-related topics especially informed consent, healthcare reform, and risk reduction strategies for medical malpractice. He has an active clinical practice in complex GI reconstructive surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction, and 'bread and butter' general surgery.
He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and has Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
