Research

Description of Research Expertise:

My expertise is in the clinical development of novel pharmaceutical compounds both large and small molecules.

Since leaving the full-time faculty at the University of Pennsylvania in 2005, I have worked in Cardiovascular early stage drug development (Phase 0-2)and immunology late stage development (Phase 2b-3). From 2005-2007, I worked at Wyeth Research focused on nuclear hormone receptor targets (PPAR, FXR, LXR) in dyslipidemia and diabetes.

From 2007 onward, I have worked on the clinical development of novel monoclonal antibodies targeting IL-12 and/or IL-23 in immune mediated diseases. This work led to the global approval of ustekinumab (Stelara) in 65+ countries for moderate to severe psoriasis. Currently I am focused on developing ustekinumab in psoriatic arthrtitis as well as overseeing a a Phase 3 program in Crohn's Disease and a proof of concept study in Rheumatoid Arthritis. This body of work led to Stelara being awarded the 2012 International Prix Galien Award for Best Product.
