Meet Dr. Bavaria

I serve as co-director of the Penn Aorta Center, known nationally for comprehensive and innovative care. I was drawn to the aorta and aortic valve because I saw a need for safer and more effective treatments. We’ve made significant strides toward that goal at Penn and continue to work on further improvements.

In my practice, I treat thoracic aortic aneurysms and repair or replace aortic valves and have completed more than 7,000 valve procedures. I have a particular interest in aortic root disease, including the impact from Marfan syndrome and other genetic disorders. Since 2005, I’ve worked to advance the field of bicuspid aortic valve repair, helping save hundreds of valves. I also serve in national leadership positions and help set national treatment guidelines. I've been recognized annually in Philadelphia magazine's Top Docs issues 2004 - 2021, America's Top Doctors 2012 - 2021, and Best Doctors in America 2003 - 2012, 2015 - 2018.

I enjoy helping people in our care regain their quality of life and take great satisfaction mentoring younger doctors. When people come for consultations, they can expect that I’ll take the time to listen, fully explain the diagnosis and make the most appropriate recommendations.
