The Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Michael Wolf, visited PAH on May 15, to presentthe second annual “Awards for Excellence in Health Care Compliance” to thePennsylvania Hospital Skilled Care Center (SCC).

The PAH SCC is the only site in Philadelphiaand one of only two out of 711 long-term care facilities regulated by the PADepartment of Health, to receive this award. Facilities are required to have nostate citations over the last three calendar years based on annual healthsurvey inspections in order to receive this award.
“The staff members of the Skilled CareCenter are elated that they have once again been awarded the Department of Health'sannual Award for Excellence in Healthcare Compliance,” said SCC Administrator Kathy Magnes, BSN, RN, NHA. “It hadonly been made possible through the continued dedication and efforts of myskilled care team members to ensure that Pennsylvania Hospital remains ‘thebest place for a patient to be a patient.’ We are honored to receive thisrecognition.”
The other site to receive the award is theSchuylkill Center of Genesis HealthCare in Pottsville. Both sites also receivedthe award last year when it was first established.
The Department of Health licenses andoversees all long-term care facilities statewide andconducts approximately 5,000 inspections annually, including licensure andcertification surveys, follow-up surveys and complaint investigations. Alldepartment-licensed long-term care facilities are eligible for the Annual Awardof Excellence and did not need to apply to be considered.
“Whenwe developed this award last year, our goal was to improve our interaction withhealth care facilities by providing something we were lacking – positivereinforcement,” said secretary of health Michael Wolf. “We are honored to beable to highlight some of our own strengths in the commonwealth as this awarddemonstrates the commitment and dedication of facilities to deliver safe,top-quality health care to some of Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens.”
