The holiday season is an especially challenging time to maintain blood supplies. The American Red Cross Blood Services must collect enough blood each and every day to meet the needs of accident victims, cancer patients, children with blood disorders and many others more in our region. Won’t you help to ensure that blood is available to meet the needs of our patients?

You can help the Red Cross overcome the shortage of blood donations by not only donating, but by also helping to spread the word about the critical shortages during the holiday season and inviting family and friends to donate. Let your friends and family know you’re a blood donor – “like” the Red Cross on Facebook and Tweet when you donate blood! When you spread the word, it helps to encourage others to do the same and rebuilds the blood supply to ensure patients have the blood products they need.

All blood types are needed! Donors with type O negative, O positive, A negative or B negative are especially encouraged to give at this time. Type O negative is the universal blood type and can be transfused to any patient. This blood type is often used in emergency situations when doctors do not have time to check a patient’s blood type before transfusion.

You can save the day this winter.  By making one donation you can save three lives!
