Jan L. Bergen, CEO, Lancaster General Health

As I write this column, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge all of us at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health in unprecedented ways.

Like you, I have spent a great deal of time reflecting on what’s happening in the world today. I don’t remember another time when every aspect of our world has been so impacted, from the economy to the lives of everyone we love.

I am sincerely grateful for your extraordinary dedication as we face this historic challenge together. Please know that I recognize and appreciate the personal sacrifices this requires, and I do not underestimate the impact on you and your families.

It is remarkable what we as an LG Health family have accomplished together in a very short time. Everyone I’ve encountered is ready and willing to do whatever is asked of them. I am immensely proud of each and every one of you as we continue to live our legacy of community commitment together.

It is heartwarming to see us come together and support one another as a community, both within LG Health and throughout Lancaster County. The outpouring of generous support from our community is both touching and humbling. In these uncertain times, I personally have found great comfort in these many displays of unity.

I ask you to remember that we all chose a career in health care so we could help others. This difficult experience will change our lives forever in many positive ways. I am certain that at the end of this pandemic, we will have many reasons to be proud.

I firmly believe that this challenge will bring out the best in us as individuals and a community, and serve as a reminder of the many blessings in our lives. For me, that begins with all of you and the strength of our shared dedication to each other, our patients and our community.

Thank you for your remarkable teamwork, professionalism and commitment during this very challenging time. Today and always, I am tremendously proud to lead such an exceptional team of health-care professionals.
