From Physician to Patient: A Pulmonologist’s PPMC Experience

The old saying goes that doctors make the worst patients. After all, it can’t be easy switching from a supposedly indestructible, invulnerable paragon of health who has all the answers, to an overwhelmed patient who suddenly has to relinquish control and rely on the care of others.

    Spreading the Spirit of Service Beyond Our Borders

    Whether by donating their time, expertise, or resources, PPMC’s staff members leave an indelible mark on the local communities they work with — and some have even spread their outreach outside of the country! For two years, Jennifer Marcellus, BSN, RN, PCCN, a clinical nurse on PAC 2 Holding/PACU, has supported the Cedella Marley Booker Basic School in the Nine Mile district of St. Ann, Jamaica, by donating new classroom supplies.

    On April 30, PPMC recognized our physicians’ devotion to creating a healthier community, as well as the vital role our committed, generous donors play in supporting our mission. During the Spring Physician Appreciation Event, faculty, staff, leadership, and donors were invited to the Cupp Pavilion to savor some delicious snacks, celebrate their achievements of Presby’s dedicated and compassionate physicians, and witness the unveiling of the new “Donors of Distinction” wall.

    Penn Presbyterian Medical Center is once again netting honors, this time earning an “A” rating from the Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade! PPMC was one of only 750 hospitals nationwide that received top marks this cycle, meaning that the tireless work and unwavering dedication of the entire staff to prioritize patient safety and to meet the highest safety standards in the country has not gone unnoticed.

    Presby’s Patient Safety Week Is a Touchdown!

    PPMC kept the Super Bowl spirit alive and livened up the hallways with a “Fly, Presby, Fly – On the Road to Zero Harm” theme during the 13th Annual Patient Safety Fair! Teams from around the hospital put together displays (many of them Eagles-related) and presentations that highlighted their innovative practices and their role in cultivating a culture of safety.

During the 17th Annual PPMC Gala, the spotlight was on M. Sean Grady, MD, and his many accomplishments in the field of traumatic brain injury.
