listening lab

The Listening Lab – which opened at HUP last month – is both an exhibit and online experience allowing people to both share their stories and listen to stories shared by others.  Aaron Levy of the University’s School of Arts and Sciences oversaw its creation. “Our idea was to seek out common ground between patient, caregiver and provider and harness the power of storytelling,” he said, “to help us reimagine what care means.”

The Listening Lab, which launched with eight stories from across the Health System, will remain in HUP’s main Ravdin lobby through November 9 and in the Perelman Center from November 13 to December 2.  From there it will move to facilities throughout UPHS.

“The goal is to celebrate listening as point of care. That’s a critical component of what we do every day at HUP,” said hospital CEO Regina Cunningham, PhD, RN. “It helps us connect on a human level. You learn so much by listening to what people’s experiences are.  It’s an incredible opportunity to hear.”
