What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal has become increasingly popular for men and women who want to permanently reduce unwanted hair. After the recommended three to six treatments, the typical patient sees an 80 to 90 percent reduction in hair growth around the targeted area.
The areas most often treated include:
- Bikini line
- Upper lip
Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?
The best candidate for laser hair removal has dark hair and light skin. The procedure is less effective for reducing grey hair or "peach fuzz."
What to Expect with Laser Hair Removal
During this short procedure, a Skin Care Program aesthetician will shave the desired area, perform the laser treatment and finally apply a cooling gel. Many say that the laser feels like a rubber band snapping against their skin. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth.
After laser hair removal, the skin may be slightly swollen for about a day and appear irritated for about a week.
Most patients require a touch-up treatment about once a year to capture small hairs that may have appeared.
