Many young women have special needs and concerns about changes in their bodies. Penn physicians specializing adolescent gynecology provide the kind of one-on-one care young women want, in an atmosphere that allows them to feel comfortable talking about their health.
In addition to providing initial or routine gynecologic care, we provide care for adolescents with a variety of gynecologic problems, including:
- Heavy bleeding
- Missed periods
- Menstrual cramps
- Delayed first period
- Pelvic pain
- Vaginal and pelvic infections
- Uneven breast growth
- Breast lumps
- Vaginal discharge
The Penn Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Center also provides assistance to young women who have been diagnosed with PCOS.
We work closely with the Penn Fertility Preservation Program to support young women with unique reproductive concerns. These services can provide an opportunity to conceive later in life after overcoming health issues that may affect their fertility. These complications may include disease (i.e., cancer, lupus, etc.), reproductive problems (i.e., ovarian cysts) or side effects caused by treatment (i.e., chemotherapy).
Additionally, our adolescent gynecologists offer counseling and educational materials about contraception and prevention of sexually transmitted disease.
