The Penn Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) has been extremely successful throughout its history in obtaining grants and other funding for cardiovascular research in Philadelphia.
Penn CVI Funding Initiatives
Periodically and generally in preparation for multidisciplinary awards (PO-1's, SCCORs, etc.), the Penn Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) leadership issues strategically targeted request for proposals (RFPs) as need arises and as opportunities present.
RFPs in select areas of multi-disciplinary cardiovascular research are periodically issued by the senior leadership council of the Penn CVI. Funding will vary depending upon the RFP, but generally range from $50,000 to $250,000 per year.
Any Penn faculty member working in the strategically targeted area, or a closely related area, is encouraged to apply for this funding. These funds are not restricted to investigators with a track record of cardiovascular investigation. Applications from research scientists who have not historically focused their studies in cardiovascular science are encouraged to apply for funding. Funding amounts will vary depending upon the RFP, but generally range from $25,000 per year to $200,000 per year.

National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Systems Biology Collaborations
This FOA issued by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health, encourages Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions/organizations that propose collaborative systems biology research projects by multidisciplinary teams to advance our understanding of normal physiology and perturbations associated with heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) diseases and disorders. Multidisciplinary expertise across experimental and computational domains is required and the multi-PI mechanism is allowed, as integration across these domains is a critical element of the proposed research plan.
