Supporting Research Funds
Orthopaedic Surgery Research Fund
This research fund supports groundbreaking basic, translational, and clinical research in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
DeForest P. Willard Fund for Orthopaedic Surgery
The DeForest P. Willard Fund supports the excellence of education and innovation at the department of Orthpaedic Surgery. Alumni and faculty are encouraged to join the DeForest Willard Society where alumni participation furthers our goal of enriching the department through the involvement of distinguished alumni and faculty. Through the DeForest Willard Society, alumni will have the opportunity to network, receive publications and invitations to department sponsored events and you will personally help to support the continued success of our department and realizing our vision of making Penn Orthopaedics a top five program within five years.
The International Orthopaedic Care Fund
This fund allows our orthopaedic surgeons and those in training to deliver trauma care and education in developing nations while being compensated and covered for their travel expenses and liability. Musculoskeletal trauma is the number one cause of death and disability worldwide – much higher than cancer, HIV, or heart disease – and our surgeons can assist in creating a foundation in orthopaedic trauma care to better serve patients in developing countries.
Ian Cali F.O.P. Research Fund
This research fund was created in honor of Ian L. Cali, a bright young man struggling with the rare bone disease Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (F.O.P.). Shore, Ph.D., Co-Directors for the Center for Research in FOP and Related Disorders.
Whitney Weldon F.O.P. Research Fund
This research fund was created in honor of Whitney Weldon and in support of the ground-breaking research of the rare disease Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (F.O.P.). Gifts to this fund support the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery as they work towards a cure for F.O.P.
