First Year Fellowship

  1. Perform adequate (allergic, immune deficiency, autoimmune disease) history and complete physical exam. Order routine laboratory tests and demonstrate knowledge of pathogenic basis of these types of disorders.
  2. Can perform allergic skin test and delayed hypersensitivity skin testing.
  3. Can perform desensitization to inhalant allergens.
  4. Can perform desensitization to drugs.
  5. Can perform screening spirometry and interpret pulmonary function tests.
  6. Can diagnose and treat disorders such as rhinitis, asthma, urticaria, eczema contact hypersensitivity, occupational lung disease, drug reactions.
  7. Will know how to diagnose immune deficiency diseases, complicated autoimmunity and hypersensitivity disorders.
    1. Can interpret delayed hypersensitivity skin tests
    2. Can assess functional antibody studies
    3. Can interpret results/significance of auto antibody assays, such anti-nuclear antibody determinations
    4. Can analyze flow cytometry histograms/contour maps for cell subsets
    5. Can perform case presentations in didactic seminar.
  8. Will demonstrate proficiency in fiberoptic rhinoscopy
  9. Will know to carry out inhalational and oral "binded" challenges (e.g. methacholine, foods, additives).
  10. Will gain knowledge of the principles, objectives and processes of quality assessment, improvement and risk management.

Second-Third Year Fellowship

  1. Will participate in planning, performing, analyzing data, and "troubleshooting" in a basic or clinical research project.
  2. Will gain sufficient knowledge about relevant human immune responses and underlying mechanisms.
  3. T&B lymphocyte development and function
  4. Signal transduction
  5. Molecular approaches relevant to human immunity
  6. Adhesion function and molecules
  7. Ig production and isotype switching, particularly IgE complement activation
  8. Neutrophil and monocyte function
  9. Will present research findings for critical analysis:
    1. Locally, within group
    2. At regional/national meeting
  10. Will gain information about career planning including logistic/financial aspects in:
    1. Academic positions
    2. Community practice positions
