The core curriculum and goals for the first and second years of the Allergy and Immunology fellowship program.

Fellowship Program Goals

  • Can perform complete and relevant history and physical exam.
  • Order routine laboratory tests and demonstrate knowledge of pathogenic basis of these types of disorders.
  • Can perform allergic skin test and delayed hypersensitivity skin testing.
  • Can perform desensitization to inhalant allergens.
  • Can perform desensitization to drugs.
  • Can perform screening spirometry and interpret pulmonary function tests.
  • Can diagnose and treat disorders such as eczema contact hypersensitivity, occupational lung disease, urticaria, rhinitis, asthma, and drug reactions.
  • Will know how to diagnose immune deficiency diseases, complicated autoimmunity and hypersensitivity disorders.
  • Will demonstrate proficiency in fiberoptic rhinoscopy.
  • Will know how to carry out inhalational and oral challenges.
  • Will gain knowledge of the principles, objectives and processes of quality assessment, improvement and patient safety and event reporting.
  • Will present research findings for critical analysis:
    • Locally, within group
    • At regional/national meeting
  • Will gain information about career planning including logistic/financial aspects in:
    • Academic positions
    • Community practice positions

    We value the importance of physician well-being and are dedicated to engaging fellows in discussion pertaining to health and wellness.  We encourage fellows to participate in available wellness and burn-out lectures and discussions, and strategies to improve if needed.
