Diversity enriches the educational experience by bringing together people from a variety of beliefs, perspectives and backgrounds. A diverse environment serves as good preparation for an increasingly multicultural and global society that requires innovative solutions to address the complex healthcare needs of today’s world.

Our mission is to build a diverse and inclusive residency program and to promote diversity in the hospital community. Essential to achieving this goal is the recruitment of the most qualified medical students from all backgrounds, including racial and ethnic minorities as well as LGBT individuals, to our residency program. Penn’s residency recruitment is supported by the Alliance for Minority Physicians, a UPHS-CHOP coalition focused on attracting underrepresented minority house staff to the Penn Medicine community. We also welcome diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity in our residency programs and partner with the Penn Medicine Program for LGBT Health for education and social activities.
