Proton Therapy for Optic Tumors | Joanne's Story Optic Tumors

Meet Joanne Kaiser Smith. As a practicing physician herself, Joanne knew something was very wrong when she woke up one morning and couldn't see clearly. It turned out she had a tumor in her optic nerve. If left untreated, she would go blind. Because of the proximity to her brain, she needed a very precise treatment. Her doctor immediately referred her to Penn Medicine. She was one of the Roberts Proton Therapy Center's first patients. Two years later, she is tumor-free. Watch as Joanne speaks of her experience commuting from New Jersey and receiving daily proton therapy treatments.
