Lymphedema
Lymphedema is the chronic swelling of a body
part due to the accumulation of lymphatic fluid.
This condition, also known as lymphatic obstruction,
is caused by the blockage of lymph vessels. Numerous
factors may result in lymphedema including genetic
predisposition, cancer, or secondary radiation
treatment. For further health information, please
see the following article on lymphedema.
Our Services
Penn Vascular Services offers treatment options
that include special medical stockings and physical
therapy. Also, although they are rarely required,
pneumatic devices known as compression pumps,
which work by squeezing the extremity to reduce
swelling, are available.
