Lung Transplant
Many of the sickest, most complicated and highest risk patients with lung disease choose the lung transplant program at Penn for their care. As one of the oldest and most experienced programs in the country, the Penn Transplant Institute has become the premier lung transplant center in the region and one of the most active in the world.

Penn has gained a reputation for performing high-risk transplant procedures on patients often turned down at other centers. In addition, it is one of the few centers in the country that performs multi-organ transplant procedures, such as combined heart-lung or liver-lung transplant. This offers hope to patients with advanced lung disease who would not be able to survive an isolated lung transplant procedure because they have another organ that is also failing. As with all of Penn’s transplant programs, the outcomes for lung transplant exceed the national averages.
