Liver
Liver Transplant Evaluation Process
Liver transplant candidates undergo a series of interviews and tests to assess their liver disease and determine if transplant is the best course of treatment. The Penn liver transplant team makes every effort to ensure our patients’ evaluation experience is as pleasant and informative as possible, allowing time for all of questions to be answered. Patients are encouraged to bring a family member or friend during their evaluation visit.
A number of studies must be completed during and prior to the patient’s visit to Penn. These tests include:
- Chest x-ray.
- Abdominal doppler ultrasound – evaluates blood vessels going to and from the liver.
- For female patients – a Pap smear and mammogram.
- Blood tests.
- Urine test.
- Cardiac evaluation.
