Heart Transplant Process

When the heart doesn’t pump as well as it should, there are many treatment options available to patients. In some cases, the heart is working so poorly that a heart transplant is the best course of treatment.

Patients whose hearts do not function well due to coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, valvular disease or other life-threatening cardiac problems may be candidates for a heart transplant. In these cases, the transplant cardiologist and surgeon discuss all treatment options and decide if patients should be evaluated and considered for a heart transplant.
