Overview
The liver transplant program at the Penn Transplant Institute is one of the most comprehensive, high volume centers in the country for patients with end-stage liver disease. Penn’s broad-based multidisciplinary team has extensive experience in:
- Adult-to-adult living donation
- Hepatitis C
- Hepatobiliary tumor and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) liver cancer
- HIV
A joint program between the Penn Transplant Institute and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) allows healthy adult relatives to donate part of their liver to a child.
In addition, patients who may face the added failure of another organ failing may have the option of a multi-organ procedure such as a liver-kidney or liver-lung. As with all of Penn Transplant Institute’s programs, the outcomes for liver transplant meet or exceed the national averages.
