Penn Transplant Institute

Kidney Transplant

Overview

The Penn Transplant Institute offers a comprehensive kidney transplant program for patients suffering from end-stage kidney disease. Surgeons perform nearly 200 kidney transplants every year, making Penn’s kidney transplant program the largest and most experienced kidney transplant program in the region.

In addition, Penn Medicine has an active living donor program, offering patients an excellent alternative to a long waiting time for a kidney.

Since the program's first kidney transplant in 1966, Penn transplant surgeons have performed more than 4,100 kidney transplants and consistently achieve transplant survival rates that exceed national averages.

The kidney transplant program is located at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Evaluations for kidney transplant are also performed at Penn Medicine Radnor, a facility of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Penn Medicine Bucks County.
