High-Definition Medical Video Technology
Penn Presbyterian Medical Center houses the most technologically-advanced
thoracic surgical operative suite in the country
and is staffed by a dedicated team of specially
trained registered nurses and surgical technologists.
The operative suite is designed specifically
for minimally invasive thoracic surgical approaches
and enhances our ability to treat lung
cancer, GERD,
achalasia,
benign esophageal tumors and hyperhydrosis. The
suite is also particularly useful for interventional
bronchoscopy, intraoperative fluoroscopy,
laser, cardiopulmonary bypass and photodynamic
therapy (PDT).
The Suite is equipped with state-of-the-art,
high definition medical video, a technology that
facilitates minimally invasive surgical procedures
by affording surgeons an enhanced view of patient
anatomy. The technology also permits a greater
depth of view, yielding an improved “3-D”
effect, helping surgeons to complete delicate
procedures with minimally invasive techniques.
This provides the opportunity for a speedier and
more comfortable recovery for patients with fewer
side effects.
“The HD technology provides a much better,
clearer, sharper picture that allows us to see
incredible details. Some of our procedures require
the ability to see tissue only as thick as a few
layers of cells, and this system easily allows
us to see the smallest of structures,” explains
Dr.
Taine Pechet, a thoracic surgeon who regularly
performs surgery in the advanced operating room.
“Anyone who has experienced the amazing
images with high definition TV at home will be
able to appreciate the difference,” says
Dr. Pechet.
