Bariatric surgery
Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery –
Through a small incision, the stomach is reduced
by creating a small pouch that is severed
from the remaining stomach. A loop of intestine
is created to attach the pouch bypassing the
stomach and the upper intestine. This procedure
restricts the amount of food the stomach can
hold.
This minimally invasive approach takes
longer to perform than the conventional “open” approach,
but provides the same weight reduction with
a faster recovery time and less postoperative
pain.
