Division of Endocrine and Oncologic
Surgery
It's difficult when someone finds out they have
cancer and that it requires surgical treatment.
It's a time when you want the best possible treatment
and compassionate care by the best medical team
available. The surgeons at Penn Endocrine and
Oncologic Surgery have the surgical expertise
and knowledge to provide that care. We offer you
comprehensive management of malignant diseases
of the breast, gastrointestinal tract, liver,
and endocrine organs such as the thyroid and adrenal
gland.
Our surgeons are leaders in their fields, aware
of the most current research about this disease
and experienced in offering the best possible
treatment options to our patients. Surgical treatments
could include radio-immunoguided surgery (RIGS),
ultrasound and laser surgery, and chemotherapy
via an implanted hepatic artery infusion pump.
Penn's surgical oncologists perform twice as
many head and neck cancer procedures as any other
Greater Philadelphia hospital. Division surgeons
perform twice as many thyroid operations--and
three times as many parathyroid operations as
other area hospitals. Surgeons in the Division
perform more adrenal procedures than any other
area hospital. In addition, surgeons remove more
spleens and perform more operations on patients
with leukemia and lymphoma than any other area
hospital. By putting this experience to work,
we offer our patients the best possible treatment
outcomes.
The Division of Endocrine and Oncologic Surgery
is notable for several reasons:
- In 2001 and 2002, the Division of Endocrine
and Oncologic Surgery performed more than 1,500
surgical procedures and saw 5,000 patients for
surgical treatment or second opinion.
- The leading surgeons in the Division of Endocrine
and Oncologic Surgery were recognized in Philadelphia
Magazine's 2002 Top Docs issue.
- Penn Endocrine and Oncologic Surgery is one
of three top centers for breast cancer surgery
in the Philadelphia area.
