Meditation techniques and other mindfulness-based practices can energize and renew the human element of healing. In this program, these practices will be used to help participants develop a comprehensive mindfulness-based approach to healing and caring—a process designed to enhance patient care, communication, and professional satisfaction.
Participants will develop a personal mindfulness practice, review the principles of mindfulness-based stress management, and then explore the use of mindfulness in the practice of psychotherapy. All participants will be asked to commit to 30 minutes of mindfulness practice daily for the duration of the course.
In this course you will:
- Learn mindfulness-based exercises that stabilize and deepen awareness
- Explore the central role of mindfulness and awareness in psychotherapy
- Cultivate a personal mindfulness practice
- Practice mindfulness-based stress management
- Use mindfulness to improve communication and enhance clinical practice
- Attend a 2 - 1/2 hour class once a week for eight weeks.
- Be asked to practice specific mindfulness techniques that you learn in class at home 6 out of 7 days each week during the eight-week course. This will help you to develop a practice that fits into your lifestyle, and will also help you to learn how to use this practice in your professional work.
- Be provided with CDs that you can use to guide your at-home meditative practices. On average, you will be asked to spend about 40 minutes each day practicing the mindfulness techniques.
- In addition to the eight classes, you will attend one all-day session which takes place on a weekend which will help to reinforce your practice of the techniques that you will learn in class
