Overnight Sleep Studies
Our facilities have been designed with
patient comfort in mind, so if an overnight sleep
study is required, you will feel right at home.
We have created our bedrooms to resemble home
bedrooms, complete with a telephone, a television
and ready access to bathrooms.
Our technologists have undergone rigorous training and are available to you throughout the night. Your safety, comfort and care are their exclusive concern. Patients are typically asked to arrive for their study in the early evening and usually leave the following morning between 6 am and 8 am. Depending on the nature of your sleep problem, you may be asked to remain after the overnight study for a series of naps. During a sleep study, several aspects of sleep are analyzed, including brain and heart activity, breathing and body movements. All monitoring is non-invasive and the majority of patients are able to sleep as well in the laboratory as they do at home.
If you are preparing for an overnight study, remember to avoid alcohol or caffeinated beverages after noon on the day of your study. Since the pillows in the laboratory will be unfamiliar to you, consider bringing your own for the study. It is also recommended that you wash your hair before you arrive. Your hair should be dry, but clean. The sleep technologists will apply sensors on your scalp.
If you typically take
medications at night
or in the morning, bring
them with you. Do not
discontinue any medications
unless you have your
doctor's consent.
If you have an illness
on the day of your study
that might interfere
with your sleep, call
the laboratory for advice
on how to proceed.
