Evaluation of Sjogren’s Syndrome
Once Sjogren's is suspected, physicians
will take a complete history, perform a physical
examination, and request a series of blood tests.
The physicians will also refer the patient to
an ophthalmologist and a dentist for additional
testing.
Patients can expect several tests to be done
to determine if Sjogren’s is present, including:
- Sialometry (measurement of saliva flow)
- Technetium 99m pertechnetate salivary scintography
- Anesthetized Schirmer’s test (measurement
of tear ducts for tear production)
- Rose bengal and flourescein corneal staining
(observing surface of the eyes for damage due
to dryness)
- Flourescein tear break up time
- ANA
- RF
- ESR
- SPEP
- Anti-SSA
- Anti-SSB
- Cryoglobulins
- Serum B2 microglobulin
- Salivary (minor or major) gland biopsy
