Rheumatology Recipes

Sometimes dietary choices can impact dryness in Sjogren's syndrome. The following recipes were taken from a cookbook compiled by the Philadelphia Regional Chapter of the Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation (Medical Advisor Frederick Vivino, MD).

Angel Food Strawberry Cake

10 servings
Submitted By: Janis Monk, Co-Leader Dothan Alabama Area Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group

  • 1 angel food cake
  • 12 ounces whipped topping
  • 1 pint fresh crushed strawberries
  • 1 pint sliced strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Slice angel food cake into 3 layers. Mix crushed strawberries with tablespoon of milk and 1 1/2 cups of whipped topping. Cover first and second layers with this mixture plus a layer of sliced strawberries. Cover top layer and sides of cake with rest of whipped topping. Garnish with slices or whole strawberries. Store in refrigerator until served.

Sugar may be added to crushed strawberries for sweeter taste. I buy already baked cake from the grocery store. It takes less than 30 minutes to make this delicious and pretty cake. It is very cool and pleasant to the taste.
