We study the basic mechanisms of transmission, pathogenesis and persistence in HIV and other chronic viral infections.
Current projects include
1. The HIV transmission bottleneck and virus phenotype in injection drug users
2. The viral dynamics of rebound viremia upon cART interruption, both in the presence and absence of treatment and curative strategies
3. The neutralization properties of SIV challenge swarms and their transmitted/founder viruses
4. The genetic signatures of Herpes Simplex Virus immune escape from vaccine pressure
