Department of Medicine at Penn Presbyterian
The Department of Medicine at Penn Presbyterian
Medical Center provides inpatient and outpatient
care, including general internal medicine care
(primary care) for adults, as well as subspecialty
care. The Department's subspecialty divisions
include cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology,
geriatrics, hematology/oncology, infectious diseases,
pulmonary/allergy/critical care, renal/hypertension
and rheumatology. Each of these divisions, including
general internal medicine itself, include board
certified faculty, many of whom are regional and
national experts in their fields. The divisions
of the Department of Medicine and their special
programs are described below.
The Department of Medicine at Penn Presbyterian
Medical Center is a branch of the University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Almost all of
the Department's faculty have academic appointments
at the University. Penn students, residents and
clinical fellows train at Penn Presbyterian Medical
Center and are the focus of the Department's education
programs. Penn's Primary Care - Internal Medicine
Residency Training Program is based at Penn Presbyterian,
while most of the subspecialty divisions participate
in Penn's fellowship programs.
With office practices located in several clinical
buildings of Penn Presbyterian Medical Center,
the Department of Medicine provides up-to-date
outpatient care and diagnostic testing, and specialized
programs for many clinical conditions (see below).
In addition, the Department maintains inpatient
units including state-of-the-art facilities providing
cardiac services, intensive and critical care,
geriatric inpatient care and general internal
medicine services. Patients find the Department
of Medicine's outpatient practices to be easily
accessible and enjoy up-to-date facilities, free
parking and ready access to medical and clinical
staff. The Department of Medicine works closely
with Penn Presbyterian Medical Center's other
clinical departments to provide patients with
complete and comprehensive care.
