What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal has become increasingly
popular for men and women who want to permanently
reduce unwanted hair. After the recommended
three to six treatments, the typical patient
sees an 80 to 90 percent reduction in hair growth.
During the short procedure, the Skin Care Program
aesthetician will shave the area, perform the
laser treatment and finally apply a cooling
gel. Many say that the laser feels like a rubber
band snapping against their skin. The laser
itself changes interacts with the root of the
hair itself to keep it from growing.
The areas most often treated include:
- back
- bikini line
- chest
- chin
- legs
- underarm
- upper lip
Who is a good candidate?
The best candidate for laser hair removal
has dark hair and light skin. The procedure
is less effective for reducing grey hair or
“peach fuzz.”
Risks
Though the process is very safe, there are some
risks:
- temporary blisters
- skin pigmentation changes
Talk with your aesthetician to be sure you
understand the procedure and potential risks
associated with laser hair removal. If you don't
understand something, ask!
Recovery and Maintenance
After laser hair removal, your skin may
be slightly swollen for about a day and appear
irritated for about a week.
Most patients require a touch-up treatment
about once a year to capture small hairs that
have appeared.
