Neck Lift

A neck lift is a set of cosmetic surgery procedures designed to improve the appearance of the neck. Liposuction may also be recommended to remove excess fat in order to achieve the best results.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?

A good candidate for neck lift surgery is someone who is healthy and has realistic expectations about what the surgery can accomplish.

Problems improved by a neck lift include:

  • Double chin or fat accumulation under the chin
  • Loose neck skin
  • Sagging jowls
  • Neck bands

Your surgeon can determine if you are a good candidate for a neck lift surgery during an initial consultation. Incision placement is also carefully considered at this time based on your desired outcome.

Risks

While neck lift surgery is normally safe, there is always the possibility of complications, as with any surgical procedure. You can reduce potential risks and complications by carefully following all pre- and post-surgery instructions provided to you by your surgeon.

Preparing for Neck Lift Surgery

You will be provided specific instruction on how to prepare, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and avoiding anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, that may interfere with the blood's ability to clot.

Carefully following all instructions will help your surgery go smoothly. Because this procedure requires general anesthesia you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery and to stay with you for at least the first night.

Recovery

Recovery from neck lift surgery is typically shorter than a traditional facelift. Most people return to work within a few days after their surgery but strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least a month.

While there is some pain following surgery, most can be managed with medications prescribed by your surgeon.
